5 Ways Organizations Can Successfully Implement New Technology

by | Feb 28, 2023

In today’s world, there is an abundance of technology. Your workday is likely filled with countless processes that could be made better with technology, but knowing which of the innumerable solutions will provide the most value to your organization can be overwhelming.

Here are five tips for how your organization can successfully implement new technology.

1. Identify Your Current Challenges

The first step to successfully implementing technology into your organization is by clearly identifying which processes can be improved with technology. Here are a few examples of what that may look like.

  • Wasting time looking for records
  • Experiencing problems sharing secure data internally and externally
  • Ineffective interdepartmental communication

Once you know exactly what problem technology can solve, you can recognize what type of solution to look for. This will help you know which systems to investigate further based on their feature list. You can narrow down your list by taking the time to demo each of these products that fit your required specifications.

2. Involve Everyone

When you’ve made the decision on what technology will be the best fit for your team, involve everyone in the training process.

You may have some team members that seem to be the innovators and are excited about the introduction of new tools, while others are lagging behind and want to stick to the old-fashioned way of doing things. Whatever adoption stage your employees are in, they should all be adequately trained on how to effectively use the new technology if their role will require its use.

You may choose to assign one person to become the product expert so everyone will know where to go if they need help.

3. Use All the Resources Available to You

Running into technical problems during your new technology adoption is completely normal. But most software organizations have prepared for this by providing endless resources so you can get the most out of your new tech.

You may have access to a training/onboarding team whose sole purpose is making sure you can get started on the right foot. As time goes on, you can work with the solution’s representatives so your implementation continues smoothly.

Some questions you may want to ask customer support to get the most out of your technology are:

  • How can I use this product successfully?
  • What is the best way to automate my processes?
  • Am I missing key uses for this product?

Your new technology is built to streamline your processes. Don’t hesitate to reach out to those with more knowledge and experience with the product.

4. Don’t Give Up!

New technology will come with a learning curve. The more advanced software you have, the longer it will take you to learn in most cases.

When you use the above resources, you will simplify its implementation and reduce the learning curve. But you won’t be able to eliminate the learning curve completely when you’re attempting to introduce a new process to your team.

So don’t give up if you have questions after your first use. That’s completely normal. It would be more concerning to NOT have to adapt your habits to the new process.

5. Audit Your New Software

After all is said and done, implementation may still be ongoing even after your entire team has started using the new technology. Implementation won’t be complete after a single week. It probably won’t even be complete after a month unless it’s extremely simple software.

To keep implementation successful, you should audit the outcome of your software. Has it lived up to your expectations? Are you doing everything necessary to get all you can out of it? Is your team happy with the changes? If you answered yes to these questions, you have likely successfully implemented your software.

If your answer is no, you’re still in luck! You can continue to assess your team’s needs and look for resources that will keep your implementation successful.

Implementing new technologies often seems completely overwhelming. But when you experience how efficient your processes can become with the right technology, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner. Implementing the right technology will add significant value to your organization.
